3054 Cherubs Manor–House – Children’s House of Culture
Marilena Flores Martins; Helen Sanches – Brazil ( marilenaflores@uol.com.br )
After decades, the importance of Play for the child development is
beginning to be recognized in Brazil. The high cost of books, material
for plastic arts and toys, associated with the lack of specialized training
for parents and educators, difficulted the change of educational paradigms
that still prevail in the actions toward children. Public policies
also do not integrally cover the rights of the children, although there
are programs and practices that strongly influence them. Included in
this category there are children cultural centers and the toy libraries
that have been implemented in the country, attending to the cultural
need of the low-income population. In a sustainable way, IPA Brazil,
in partnership with the association Awakening for Sustainable Development,
a community group from the city of Campanha, MG., has
implemented the project Cherubs Manor–House – Children’s House
presentation of a kit with objecstoys, it was verified that the promotion
of play is a fundamental resource of manifestation and development
of the child’s affectiveness, in situations where, almost everytime, she
is the only protagonist, responsible for her own actions and fantasies,
asserting herself as the subject of action.
the health recovery of hospitalized children, with an increase of interpersonal
relations, the occupation of time beyond medical protocols,
greater acceptance of invasive protocols, the chance of smiling despite
pain and suffering. The toy library reduced space has restrictive implications.
The project has expanded the process of hospital humanization
and potentialized the institutional mission of the Community
University, qualifying the initial training.
of Culture. Its main objective is to increase the community access to
cultural activities. Areas such as: literature, arts, games and play, they
all raise the level of knowledge about the culture of childhood and its
expression in the community. The ludic and cultural activities are developed
both indoors and outdoors, which include: toy library, a library
with storytelling, workshops with games and handcrafting, for children
from 3 to 12 years of age. For parents, professionals and youngsters,
the Manor-House offers training courses such as The Play Agents, multigenerational
events and the opportunity of experiencing traditional
entertainments and regional games. The participation of the community
has increased thanks to the visits of schools, family playing sessions
and events in public areas.
