Problem Possible Cause Solution

The Apex Locator
Will Not Turn On
• One of the connection cables
could be inserted improperly or
defective.
• Connection error between the
cables and the unit.
• Contact between the lip clip
and either the contra-angle file
or the file in the file clip either
too short or faulty.
• Check all plug connections and retry.
• If you tried to activate the apex
locator by connecting the lip clip to the
file in the contra-angle, try again using
the lip clip and the file in the file clip.
If this successfully activates the apex
locator, then the connection between
the lip clip and the file in the contraangle
is faulty.
• Check the contact between the file
and the lip clip.
• If the results are still negative, this
indicates that the contra-angle (only
the original VDW 6:1 contra-angle may
be used) is not transmitting signals
correctly. The contra-angle needs to
be replaced.
• If the error persists following contact
between the lip clip and the anglepiece
file as well as between the lip
clip and the file clip file, this could
indicate a defective lip clip cable or
a break in the measurement current
circuit (file correctly inserted, file with
electricity-conducting steel shaft).
If the error cannot be fixed, switching
the apex locator on and thus using it
will not be possible.
