grows. Growers in the
area say, however, that
the fruit will be good
and big. The projections
also expect an
18% rise in the organic
export crop to 14,000
tons. It looks like the
unseasonably cold
temperatures will
cause a 10% drop in
the kiwi gold crop. If
this forecast holds,
New Zealand will
export 350,000 tons, a
drop of 5% on the year.
Pear goes
The Southern (*) Projections / (*) Previsioni
Hemisphere’s 2010
pear crop is expected
to take a 2.9% dip on the year, coming in at 759,224
tons (table 1). Exports of all varieties to Europe will be
off by about 38,000 compared to 2009. While North
American importers are expected to cut purchases by
9,500 tons, their counterparts in South America and
Russia may increase theirs.
The small size Argentina’s pear crop will cause a drop
in Williams exports to Italy and the US, where consumers
want large-sized fruits (table 2). South Africa
too is expected to ship fewer Williams to Europe and
more Forelle, Rosemarie, Packham´s Triumph and
Abbé Fétel.
Argentine and South African exporters have high
hopes that Europe’s buyers will come through with a
good price for the small-sized Williams. Yet the situation
is a bit more complicated than it seems at first
sight since there are still a lot of pears in Europe’s cold
stores and retail receipts are down, a double-pronged
trend that worries both importers and exporters on
each side of the ocean.
It’s also possible, though, for exports to build a certain
momentum early in the season spurred by the need to
gain as much market share as soon as they can.
Apple, demand strong in Russia
Southern apple exports are expected to post a 2%
rise over 2009, for a total volume 1,621,530 tons
(table 1).
Sales to Europe will be down by 13,000 tons because
of the poor Red Delicious and Braeburn crops,
although receipts for Granny Smith, Cripps Pink and
Pink Lady are expected to rise. Exports are expected
to be on the upswing to North America (by 5,000 tons

Zelanda esporterà
350.000 tonnellate con
un decremento del 5%
in confronto al 2009.
Pera, piccolo calibro
Per quanto riguarda la
pera prodotta
nell’Emisfero Sud è
prevista una contrazione
delle esportazioni del 2,9% rispetto al 2009, con un
totale di 759.224 tonnellate (tabella 1). Le vendite
verso l’Europa dell’insieme delle varietà saranno inferiori
di 38.000 tonnellate rispetto al 2009. L’America
del Nord diminuirá i suoi acquisti (9.500 tonnellate),
mentre l’America Latina e la Russia potrebbero incrementare
le importazioni.
A causa del minor calibro, l’Argentina diminuirà la
esportazione di pera Williams in quanto il mercato italiano
e quello statunitense sono esigenti nel richiedere
calibri grandi (tabella 2). Anche l’Africa del Sud cercherà
di esportare in Europa meno Williams e di piú altre
varietà (Forelle, Rosemarie, Packham´s Triumph e
Abate Fetel).
C’è grande aspettativa verso le decisioni degli importatori
europei che potrebbero comperare a buon prezzo
le Willimas di piccolo calibro da Argentina e Africa
del Sud. A rendere più complicato il quadro il fatto
contribuiscono una elevata quantità di pere conservate
nei frigoriferi europei e la diminuzione dei consumi,
una tendenza che preoccupa in egual misura i produttori
europei e argentini.
È possibile che il ritmo di esportazione sia dinamico
all´inizio della raccolta, in sintonia con la necessità di
occupare presto lo spazio nei mercati.
Mela, la Russia tira
Per le mele si prevede un aumento delle esportazioni del
2% in confronto con il 2009, per un totale di 1.621.530
tonnellate (tabella 1).
La vendita a Europa sarà inferiore di 13.000 tonnellate
per via del minore raccolto del tipo Red Delicious e
Braeburn, anche se aumenterà la vendita d’altre varietà
