By contrast, projections are down for Middle Eastern
markets because of the poor Red Delicious crop.
Brazil is expected to post an overall rise in its apple
crop, led by a 12% increase in Fuji, a 5% increase for
Gala and a 7% one for the others. According to
Pomagri CEO Pierre Nicolas Pérès, the estimate for
Gala may not be as robust as it looks at the moment.
It’s a view that suggests Brazil may export more or
less the same volume as last year instead of posting
an expected rise (table 1).
The projected rise in Chile’s exports rest on the estimated
3.3% rise observers are assuming for the crop
of Gala and its clones (table 3). While European
importers are viewed as keeping purchases in line
with last year’s, their counterparts in South America
and Russia are expected to buy more this year.
Industry analysts are predicting that Europe-bound
Golden Delicious exports from South Africa will be
at the same volumes as last year’s, whereas those
of Granny Smith and Pink Lady should increase.
The lower crop harvested in New Zealand is the
reason analysts see a drop in Braeburn apples
exported to Europe.

tonnellate), mentre l’area del Medio Oriente assottiglierà
i suoi acquisti a causa della minore raccolta del tipo Red
Delicious.
Il Brasile aumenterà la sua raccolta di mele dell’8% (Gala
+5%, Fuji +12% e altri +7%), ma per la varietà Gala,
secondo l’opinione del direttore di Pomagri, Pierre
Nicolas Pérès, con più incertezze. Una previsione che
induce a pensare che il Brasile esporterà la stessa
quantità del 2009, e non un volume maggiore (tabella 1).
L’incremento nelle esportazioni da parte del Cile è alla
base della stima per la varietà Gala e per i suoi cloni
(tabella 3) di un aumento dell’esportazione del 3.3%.
Dall’ Europa si prevedono importazioni in linea con il
2009, mentre dovrebbero aumntare le vendite in
America del Sud e verso la Russia.
Golden Delicious manterrà lo stesso volume di esportazioni
verso l’Europa, con provenienza soprattutto
dall’Africa del Sud, mentre aumenterà quello di Granny
Smith e Pink Lady. La minore raccolta in Nuova Zelanda
(tabella 3) è all’origine della riduzione di esportazioni di
Braeburn verso l’Europa.
