PRODUCT TRENDS GRUNDIG VISION 9 PUTS SOUND INTO THE PICTURE By Mark Dezzani To differentiate itself in the competitive flat-screen TV market, German manufacturer Grundig has drawn on its other main area of expertise, sound. The new top model from Grundig, Vision 9, is equipped with an integrated sound projector. It is a speaker system with 16 powerful cone speakers, which deliver true surround sound without any additional 5.1 equipment. A sound bar beneath the screen houses the individual speakers, while a subwoofer unit with two speakers at the back of the housing reverberates toward the rear. Sophisticated technology activates the individual speakers with a small delay, generating bundles of sound waves that are directed at different points of the room and reflected off the walls. Grundig claims that its integrated sound projector stands up against the best 5.1 systems. The new Grundig Vision 9, which is available with 37-, 42- and 47-inch screens, offers full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels); a 100Hz refresh rate; motionpicture improvement technology, which prevents motion blur; and a “moviemode” feature, which METZ: 70 YEARS OF ”MADE IN GERMANY“ QUALITY By Bruce Cooper screens movies in their original 24fps. The Vision 9 has four HDMI connections for media players and receivers. This allows all connected peripheral appliances, such as DVD players and DVB and satellite receivers, to be controlled using the set’s own TV remote control, as long as these appliances are also equipped with HDMI connections. Grundig also launches three new satellite receivers at IFA. Top of the range is the sleek DSR 6835 HDMI Twin Tuner, which has two receiver units and a 250GB hard drive. Unlike regular satellite receivers, which have one receiver unit, the DSR 6835 HDMI can record one programme while another is being watched. Recordings can be archived to external storage media via the fast. Hall 23 / 100 Metz, the German electronic company renowned for its flashguns, showcases its panel of highend products at IFA 2008.
