Typische materialen voor kleine zonneschermen zijn Dralon en
Lyverscreen. Deze worden zelden aangewend voor structurele
toepassingen.
Polyester weefsels zijn goedkoop. Fluorpolymeren daarentegen,
zoals Tenara (PolyTetraFluorEthyleen) dat bijzonder soepel is en
goed bestand tegen UV-stralen, zijn zeer duur.

Project 7: In de ‘Extension to the Prophet’s Holy Mosque’ zijn de opvouwbare

Een materiaal met bvb. 10% lycra is heel rekbaar, wat betekent dat
er nauwelijks knippatronen nodig zijn. Het wordt op heden vooral
gebruikt voor decoratieve binnentoepassingen. Volgend voorbeeld
werd door Extentex gebouwd.

De Reichstag in Berlijn werd door Christo & Jeanne-Claude
ingepakt met een polypropyleen weefsel (met aluminium coating).

“The installation took years of planning. The considerable activity, which
precedes the installation, is as much a part of a particular work as the actual
installation. It took twenty-four years before the Reichstag could be wrapped…
The final realization of a project by Christo and Jeanne-Claude is not the
installation of a particular piece. A project is not completed until the installation
is removed and the site is returned to its "normal" state. Yet that formerly
inviolate condition has been forever altered by the installation and the lingering
