Rudarstvo 2011 / Mining 2011Modernization means RTB Bor can realize significant development potential of mineral resourcesin Bor area over the next 30 years.Proposed Project consistent with LEAP initiatives developed cooperatively between RTB Bor, theMunicipality of Bor, and Ministry of Environmental Protection and Spatial Planning.Environmental effects for both air and water quality of the proposed new facilities is considered tobe localized and manageable compared the effects caused by the outdated and antiquatedfacilities. Increased employment opportunities for youngerworkers maintained and expanded through proposed Project. Workers with family ties may beencouraged to stay in Bor, or return home to Bor provided there are job opportunities. RTB Bor maintains and re-instates employment opportunities for the new smelter, acid plant, andwater treatment plant. Some staff can be re-trained and re-deployed to undertake the variousLEAP initiatives. Greater chance for attracting other secondary industries, or SMEs to BOR area. RTB Bor‘s prosperity has secondary economic and social benefits for the surrounding Borcommunity and nearby settlement areas. Modernized Bor assists in removing environmental stigma or image that people attach to Borbecause of the environmental legacy issues. Proposed new smelter/acid plant/water treatment plant is supported by the local community, andinterested stakeholders. Project is supported by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, the Ministry ofEnvironmental Protection and Spatial Planning , and the Municipality of Bor. Local educational training facilities (e.g., Univ. Belgrade – Technical Faculty) offers training forBor residents interested in working at RTB Bor. Training can be adapted to suit new smelter/acidplant operations.
