My Dear Gudrun
A letter from you just arrived. It is lovely to hear from you and Berger and gives me
great pleashure to hear how our dear little Egbert Is getting on. I feel so interested in
him and often wish I was not so far away from you all. My trip to Norway did me a
great deal of good. You were all so very kind, Now I know you all I can bring you into
my life and thoughts daily. My heart seems very ful when I think of Auntie Dekke and
all she was to me. Our souls starve without love and sympathy. They say sympathy
does no good but I don’t agree on that because I don’t know how I should have got on
in my life without the love and sympathy of loving friends. Out trip home was most
interesting and also very trying during the heat in the Red Sea. I am right back in my
old work on the farm. Life in the country is very different to the town but not so great
as in France and Norway and Sweden. What a lovely reunion from you all in Larvik. I
can just imagine how delighted they all were to see little Egbert especially your
Mother. I hope Ingrid is quite well again and has the joy of a little daughter. It is so
nice to have a pair. One child alone is not good. We build all our hope on that one and
if that is taken away from us our whole life is spoilt. The weather at present is cold and
very unpleasant more like winter but we get swaps like this recastonable tomorrow
may be very hot. I thought of writing you a long letter today but I seem to get so many
interruptions so will have to stop. These lines should reach you by Xmas. I send you
all three my very best love and wishes, lots of kisses for my little Egbert. Some day I
can write to him to. Much love to you all from
Auntie Hilda
