Italy, Love It or Leave It.
„Non mollare mai! – Niemals aufgeben!“ Mit dieser politischen Grundhaltung
gehen Gustav und Luca der italienischen Seele auf den Grund. Sie sind
Italiener, ein homosexuelles Paar und unterschiedlicher Meinung über ihr
Heimatland. Während der eine am liebsten sofort Richtung Berlin aufbrechen
würde, möchte der andere das Land, in dem die Zitronen blühen, nicht
verlassen. So machen sie sich auf die Suche nach Gründen, trotz Mafia,
Berlusconi, Sexismus und Müllbergen auch heute noch im Land des dolce
vita ein lebenswertes Dasein führen zu können. Ein amüsantes semi-dokumentarisches
Roadmovie mit witzigen Collagen, das uns intime Einblicke
in unser liebstes Reiseland gewährt und die allgegenwärtige Frage nach
Korruption und Demokratie – auch mitten in Europa – aufwirft. Teresa Zeckau
“Non mollare mai! – Never give up!” From this political standpoint,
Gustav and Luca embark upon an investigation of the Italian soul. They are
a homosexual Italian couple and have different opinions on their homeland.
While one would prefer to leave immediately for Berlin, the other doesn’t
want to abandon the land in which the lemon trees grow. So they set off on a
search to find reasons why, despite the mafia, Berlusconi, sexism and piles
off rubbish, it is still possible today in the home of Dolce Vita to lead a life
worth living. An amusing, semi-documentary road movie with humorous
collages, which affords us intimate insights into our favourite holiday destination
and raises the ubiquitous questions of corruption and democracy

an der Universität Wien und Film an der Middlesex University in London.
Seit 1996 freier Journalist und Dokumentarfilmer, Moderator der Sendung
„arte Journal“ auf arte und Korrespondent aus Italien. LUCA RAGAZZI – Rom
1971. Studium der Literatur und Philosophie in Rom. Journalist, Filmkritiker
und Fotograf.

La Vierge, les Coptes et moi The Virgin, the Copts and Me
„Hast Du Sie wirklich gesehen?“ fragt Namir seine Mutter, eine koptische
Christin immer wieder. Sie will auf einem Video aus ihrer ägyptischen Heimat
eine Erscheinung der Jungfrau Maria gesehen haben. Namir ist säkular
in Frankreich aufgewachsen und steht dem Glauben skeptisch gegenüber. Er
reist in die Heimat seiner Eltern, um einen Film über das Thema zu drehen.
Als die Recherchen in Kairo wenig erfolgreich sind, beschließt er gegen alle
Absprachen, seine Verwandten in einem koptischen Dorf zu besuchen. Das
Verhängnis nimmt seinen Lauf: Seine Mutter reist ihm nach, um Filmaufnahmen
zu verhindern, sein Produzent kündigt ihm den Vertrag und eine Maria
ist auch nicht in Sicht. In seiner Verzweiflung geht Namir aufs Ganze: Er
inszeniert mit den Anwohnern eine Erscheinung der Mutter Jesu. Namir
Abdel Messeeh gelingt eine semidokumentarische Komödie über Familie
und Religion von großer Sensibilität und Charme. Daniel Sponsel
“Did you really see her?” Namir is asked by his mother, a Coptic
Christian, over and over again. She claims to have seen an apparition of
the Virgin Mary in the video from their Egyptian homeland. Namir had a
secular upbringing in France and is sceptical towards his mother’s beliefs.
He travels to his parents’ homeland to make a film about the topic. When his
research in Cairo proves unsuccessful, he changes his plans and decides to
visit his relatives in a Coptic village where fate takes its course. His mother
follows him in a bid to prevent the filming, his producer withdraws from
their contract and the Virgin Mary is still nowhere to be seen. In his despair,
Namir goes the whole hog: with help from the locals he stages an apparition
of the Mother of God. Namir Abdel Messeeh’s semi-documentary comedy
about family and religion is packed with sensitivity and charm. Daniel Sponsel
Regie NAMIR ABDEL MESEEH – Ägypten 1974. Wuchs in Frankreich
auf, wo er bis heute lebt. Er schloss sein Studium an der Universität ParisVII
mit einem Master in Film ab und studierte anschließend Regie an der Fémis,
der nationalen Filmschule Frankreichs.
