Big Boys Gone Bananas!*
Adele Kohout
“It is easier to cope with a bad conscience than a bad reputation.”
With this motto in mind, the corporate giant, DOLE Food Company, led their
campaign against a Swedish filmmaker and his film BANANAS!* – a film
which discloses the company’s cultivation methods and the resulting health
problems experienced by South American plantation workers. Not only had
the company management not seen the film but they also spared no effort
nor cost in their attempt to control it with their army of lawyers, PR consultants
and journalists. BIG BOyS GONE BANANAS!* follows the tribulations
and successes of a David against Goliath. Adele Kohout
Ici on noie les Algériens – 17 Octobre 1961
Here We Drown Algerians – October 17th, 1961
Regisseurin yasmina Adi
Dunja Bialas
17th October 1961 was the day that the “Massacre of Paris” took
place. Tens of thousands of Algerians living in Paris were peacefully demonstrating
against the curfews that had been imposed on them because of the
events of the Algerian War when the police advanced on them with maximum
brutality. 200 people died; they were shot and beaten and their bodies were
dumped in the Seine. The bloody suppression of the demonstration remains
a taboo subject in France to this day. But what really happened on the day?
Director, yasmina Adi, interviews witnesses and the bereaved and combines
their testimonies with unique audio and visual material from the archives of
the broadcasters. An absorbing reconstruction of a day, which people still
do not speak about. Dunja Bialas
Regie YASMINA ADI – Saint-Martin-d’Hères (Isère), 1975. Arbeitet
dreht. ICI ON NOIE LES ALGÉRIENS wurde 2012 für den César in der Kategorie
Bester Dokumentarfilm nominiert.
