Jury <strong>DOK</strong>.deutsch & FFF Talent Award<br />

This jury will select the winner of the <strong>DOK</strong>.deutsch competition and the FFF-<br />

Documentary-Talent Award.<br />

SILVIA HALLENSLEBEN, Film Journalist, Berlin. Born in Wuppertal,<br />

Hallensleben trained as a photographer and studied literature, history<br />

and psychology in Berlin. She is, among other things, a university lecturer,<br />

editor and has worked for many years as a freelance author and film critic<br />

with a specialism in documentary film. She lives in Berlin.<br />

MATTHIAS HELWIG, Director Fünf-Seen-Film<strong>fest</strong>ivals, Starnberg and<br />

the surrounding area. Helwig studied at HFF Munich. Since 1986 he has been<br />

in charge of the ‘Breitwand’ art house cinemas in Starnberg, Schloss Seefeld<br />

and Herrsching, which have won more than 100 awards for their outstanding<br />

annual film, documentary film and children’s film programmes, including the<br />

Tassilo Award in 2008 from the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Since 2009 Helwig has<br />

been deputy manager of the AG Kino-Gilde, the cinema representative on the<br />

script commission of the FFA, and, in 2010, he was the Kino-Champion in<br />

Germany (a distributor award). Since 2007 he has been director of the Fünf-<br />

Seen-Film<strong>fest</strong>ivals.<br />

BARBARA PICHLER, Festival Director, Diagonale, Graz. Received her<br />

MA in Film Studies from British Film Insitute/London University and has been<br />

involved with film since the mid 1990s as a curator, author, (copy) editor and<br />

in the field of film education. She has been responsible for the conception<br />

of film programmes, film education programmes and work for various film<br />

<strong>fest</strong>ivals. She has co-edited the publications “moving landscapes. Landschaft<br />

und Film” (Vienna, 2006) and “James Benning” (Vienna, 2007). Since 2008<br />

she has been the director of the Diagonale, Festival of Austrian Film.<br />

DR. ANDREAS ROST, Film lecturer Ludwig-Max<strong>im</strong>ilians-University,<br />

Munich. After completing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich,<br />

Rost was employed as an art teacher at academic highschools. This was followed<br />

by university studies in history of art, philosophy and pedagogy in<br />

Munich, Paris and Bamberg and finally his PhD with a thesis on “The Aesthetic<br />

Experience in Cinema Derived from W<strong>im</strong> Wenders’ Film, ALICE IN THE<br />

CITIES.” After a term as an assistant teacher at the University in Bamberg,<br />

he was put in charge of initiating and funding film-activities at the Cultural<br />

Department of the City of Munich between 1992 and 2011. He now teaches film<br />

at Munich’s Ludwig-Max<strong>im</strong>ilians-University.<br />

DAVID WEGMÜLLER, Solothurner Filmtage. Born in 1977 in Morges<br />

(CH), Wegmüller studied german philology and journalism in Freiburg and<br />

Trieste. He is now a freelance journalist and translator. Since 2006 he has<br />

worked at Solothurner Filmtagen where his roles have included: programme<br />

director of the European section “Passages,” member of the selection committee<br />

for the “Panorama Schweiz,” coordination of supporting events and<br />

panels and also <strong>fest</strong>ival press officer.<br />
