Jury DOK.deutsch & FFF Talent Award
This jury will select the winner of the DOK.deutsch competition and the FFF-
Documentary-Talent Award.
SILVIA HALLENSLEBEN, Film Journalist, Berlin. Born in Wuppertal,
Hallensleben trained as a photographer and studied literature, history
and psychology in Berlin. She is, among other things, a university lecturer,
editor and has worked for many years as a freelance author and film critic
with a specialism in documentary film. She lives in Berlin.
MATTHIAS HELWIG, Director Fünf-Seen-Filmfestivals, Starnberg and
the surrounding area. Helwig studied at HFF Munich. Since 1986 he has been
in charge of the ‘Breitwand’ art house cinemas in Starnberg, Schloss Seefeld
and Herrsching, which have won more than 100 awards for their outstanding
annual film, documentary film and children’s film programmes, including the
Tassilo Award in 2008 from the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Since 2009 Helwig has
been deputy manager of the AG Kino-Gilde, the cinema representative on the
script commission of the FFA, and, in 2010, he was the Kino-Champion in
Germany (a distributor award). Since 2007 he has been director of the Fünf-
Seen-Filmfestivals.
BARBARA PICHLER, Festival Director, Diagonale, Graz. Received her
MA in Film Studies from British Film Insitute/London University and has been
involved with film since the mid 1990s as a curator, author, (copy) editor and
in the field of film education. She has been responsible for the conception
of film programmes, film education programmes and work for various film
festivals. She has co-edited the publications “moving landscapes. Landschaft
und Film” (Vienna, 2006) and “James Benning” (Vienna, 2007). Since 2008
she has been the director of the Diagonale, Festival of Austrian Film.
DR. ANDREAS ROST, Film lecturer Ludwig-Maximilians-University,
Munich. After completing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich,
Rost was employed as an art teacher at academic highschools. This was followed
by university studies in history of art, philosophy and pedagogy in
Munich, Paris and Bamberg and finally his PhD with a thesis on “The Aesthetic
Experience in Cinema Derived from Wim Wenders’ Film, ALICE IN THE
CITIES.” After a term as an assistant teacher at the University in Bamberg,
he was put in charge of initiating and funding film-activities at the Cultural
Department of the City of Munich between 1992 and 2011. He now teaches film
at Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-University.
DAVID WEGMÜLLER, Solothurner Filmtage. Born in 1977 in Morges
(CH), Wegmüller studied german philology and journalism in Freiburg and
Trieste. He is now a freelance journalist and translator. Since 2006 he has
worked at Solothurner Filmtagen where his roles have included: programme
director of the European section “Passages,” member of the selection committee
for the “Panorama Schweiz,” coordination of supporting events and
panels and also festival press officer.
