Musik im Dokumentarfilm I - DOK.fest München

Believe me when I say that being Director of DOK.fest Munich is a job that
gives me great pleasure, because the many documentary films I get to see
give me insights into worlds that I would, no doubt, personally not encounter
otherwise. On the other hand I am confronted year after year with a great
deal of distress. Again this year – the first year after Fukushima – there
have been countless events that have been tackled by documentary films.
For me, one thing is key to this process: Do the authors succeed in not only
informing me but releasing me back into reality with an increased emotional
awareness?
The so-called Arab Spring, which has now already been replaced
by a turbulent autumn (as the media would put it), is this year at the centre
of the DOK.guest programme. The films invited to participate from various
Arab countries present the audience with deeper insights into the upheavals
that have taken place within the region and trace their development towards
an end that can still not be foreseen.
We do observe with interest the debate that is taking place
throughout Germany on the issue of cultural budgets. For DOK.fest Munich
things are going well insofar as: DOK.forum is entering its second year and
has a new location within HFF Munich; we have moved into new, bigger
premises in Dachauer Straße, in the so-called creative quarter; and The
German Federal Cultural Foundation and the European Union, through the
MEDIA programme, are supporting us for the first time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters,
partners and sponsors and hope that we can continue to follow this path
together. Thanks also go to my excellent team for their tireless dedication.
Without this commitment a cultural event like DOK.fest Munich would, even
with an increased budget, not be possible.
