XIX. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Secretaries<br />

18. Assignments <strong>of</strong> secretaries to summer school shall be made in accordance<br />

with the provisions <strong>of</strong> Article XVIII, Section C(9).<br />

19. The list <strong>of</strong> employees appointed to summer school by classification and<br />

home schools shall be published by posting in the summer schools at least two<br />

(2) weeks after summer school has started.<br />

C. Duties<br />

1. All duties and emergency assignments within a school are to be shared<br />

among all employees on an equitable basis.<br />

2. Secretaries shall not be required to act as nurses.<br />

3. Secretaries shall not be required to perform heavy lifting in the receiving<br />

and distribution <strong>of</strong> books and supplies.<br />

4. During their regular hours <strong>of</strong> work, employees shall not be required to<br />

perform any work in premises not owned or operated by the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong>.<br />

D. equipment, Supplies, Facilities and Other conditions<br />

1. Every employee shall be supplied with adequate and usable furniture and<br />

equipment, including adequate lighting, appropriate to the tasks to be performed<br />

by the employee.<br />

2. A clothing locker and a separate desk or equivalent facilities are to be<br />

provided to each employee.<br />

3. Where possible, fifteen (15) days’ notice will be given for repairs to be<br />

made during the workday. Where alterations are planned, employees are to be<br />

notified when the contract is let and the contemplated date for start <strong>of</strong> the work<br />

and preliminary work will be performed without causing the contract to be performed<br />

out <strong>of</strong> the specified sequence to minimize adjustment problems.<br />

4. To the extent funds are available, “peak load” secretarial service shall be<br />

provided to any school requesting such service for the months <strong>of</strong> September,<br />

October, May and June.<br />

5. The Superintendent and/or CEO shall furnish to each school secretary, a<br />

schedule <strong>of</strong> the due dates, upon which requisitions and tests are periodically to<br />

be administered or completed.<br />

6. Annual quantities <strong>of</strong> certain critical supply items, named <strong>School</strong> Opening<br />

Supplies, and bulk paper items shall be delivered to all schools prior to the<br />

school year opening. Requisitions for these supplies are to be completed in<br />

May.<br />

7. In <strong>of</strong>fices which are non-air conditioned or do not have properly functioning<br />

air conditioning, if the temperature outside is equal to or greater than 85<br />

degrees Fahrenheit, the hours for beginning and ending work between July 1<br />

and September 1 shall be the number <strong>of</strong> consecutive hours between 9:00 a.m.<br />

and 3:00 p.m., broken by the usual lunch period.<br />
