XX. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Non-Teaching Assistants<br />

11. An employee may take one (1) week <strong>of</strong> unpaid time per year in addition<br />

to his/her vacation. Requests for such time shall be submitted in the same manner<br />

as requests for vacation.<br />

12. Ten (10) month employees working in the summer shall be permitted,<br />

during any summer, to use sick leave accumulated and not used during past<br />

regular school sessions.<br />

13. Ten (10) month employees working in the summer shall be permitted,<br />

during any summer, the same funeral leave as during the regular school year.<br />

14. Ten (10) month employees working in the summer shall be permitted,<br />

during any summer, to use personal leave days for urgent personal business<br />

which cannot be conveniently scheduled on other than workdays or for personal<br />

emergencies requiring immediate attention. No more than three (3) personal<br />

leave days may be used without loss <strong>of</strong> salary by any employee during any<br />

calendar year.<br />

B. Assignment and transfers<br />

1. Assignments and reassignments shall be made in accordance with the<br />

needs <strong>of</strong> the school system as determined by the Superintendent and/or CEO.<br />

2. Except for emergency situations, it is the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong>’s policy to retain<br />

an NTA in his/her school. Temporary assignments may be made in the event <strong>of</strong><br />

an emergency affecting the safety and welfare <strong>of</strong> the children in the school to<br />

which such assignment is made. The temporary assignment shall terminate with<br />

termination <strong>of</strong> the emergency.<br />

3. NTAs may file with the Office <strong>of</strong> Human Resources written requests for<br />

transfer from one (1) school to another. Such a request shall contain the names<br />

<strong>of</strong> those schools to which the NTA would be willing to transfer. When a vacancy<br />

occurs in the position <strong>of</strong> NTA, such a request for transfer will be honored on a<br />

basis <strong>of</strong> system-wide seniority unless it is determined not to be in accordance<br />

with the needs <strong>of</strong> the school system. Transfer requests must be received in the<br />

Office <strong>of</strong> Human Resources between January 1 and May 1. For purposes <strong>of</strong><br />

seniority, all transfers will be effectuated immediately. Transfers will occur as<br />

soon as practical but in no event later than July 1.<br />

4. A satisfactory employee may apply for a summer position. The number <strong>of</strong><br />

NTA summer positions and the number <strong>of</strong> hours allotted for each position shall<br />

be determined each year based on the needs <strong>of</strong> the school programs.<br />

5. Summer work assignments shall be made in accordance with the following<br />

provisions:<br />

(a) Notice naming the schools in which NTA positions will be available for<br />

the summer and the number <strong>of</strong> positions in each school shall be sent out no later<br />

than June 7.<br />

(b) Applications for NTAs to fill such positions shall be submitted within two<br />

(2) weeks after notice is published.<br />

(c) In assigning NTAs to summer employment in any school, the NTAs whose<br />

home school it is will be assigned, to the number necessary to fulfill its require-<br />
