XIII. Benefits<br />

3. The funds from this program shall be made available to Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals,<br />

Non-Teaching Assistants, Secretaries, non-degreed Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/Technical bargaining<br />

unit members, non-degreed Comprehensive Early Learning Center<br />

bargaining unit members, <strong>Teachers</strong> who need to be re-certified.<br />

4. Each year, employees in the above classifications shall be eligible for<br />

tuition assistance for the cost <strong>of</strong> college credits <strong>of</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> fifty dollars<br />

($50) per college credit for a maximum <strong>of</strong> six (6) credits in any one (1) year.<br />

I. life insurance<br />

1. Eligibility. Upon employment, an employee in a covered bargaining unit,<br />

irrespective <strong>of</strong> sex, shall be permitted to obtain coverage under Life Insurance<br />

Plan No. 5 without medical examination. An employee in service for more than<br />

ninety (90) days electing to obtain such coverage at any other time must undergo<br />

a medical examination satisfactory to the insurance carrier, the cost <strong>of</strong> which<br />

he/she must pay.<br />

2. Covered Bargaining Units. <strong>Teachers</strong>, Non-Teaching Assistants, Secretaries,<br />

Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals, Comprehensive Early Learning Center, Food Service<br />

Managers, Head Start and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/Technical.<br />

3. Amount <strong>of</strong> Coverage. Coverage under the Life Insurance Plan No. 5 shall<br />

permit an employee to elect life insurance coverage in the amount <strong>of</strong> two thousand<br />

dollars ($2,000) or coverage in the following amounts:<br />

$7,000 to $7,999.99 $12,500 $15,000 to $15,999.99 $22,500<br />

$8,000 to $8,999.99 $13,750 $16,000 to $16,999.99 $23,750<br />

$17,000 and over $25,000<br />

4. Retiree Life Insurance. The amount <strong>of</strong> insurance provided for employees<br />

who retire and who have been participating in the life insurance program shall<br />

be two thousand dollars ($2,000).<br />

5. <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> Contribution. The <strong>District</strong> will continue its present participation<br />

in the premium cost <strong>of</strong> life insurance coverage, but in no case shall<br />

this be less than approximately one-half (½) <strong>of</strong> such premium cost.<br />

6. Additional Options. In addition to the foregoing, with the approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Federation</strong>, the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> may <strong>of</strong>fer other insurance options which, at the<br />

employee’s expense through authorized payroll deduction, may be purchased<br />

by eligible employees and/or their qualifying dependents.<br />
