XXII. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Pre-K Employees<br />

8. Voluntary transfers for teachers in the Pre-K Program shall be effected in<br />

accordance with Article XVIII, Section C(5)(a)-(h).<br />

9. If a Pre-K Center is closed or relocated, the teachers may elect to follow<br />

the class to the new location or become a forced transfer. As a forced transfer<br />

the teacher will select a position in accordance with his/her system seniority.<br />

The teacher shall be <strong>of</strong>fered vacancies in Pre-K, kindergarten, and grade<br />

through the regular reorganization process.<br />

10. For the 2001/2002 year and thereafter, the Office <strong>of</strong> Early Childhood<br />

shall designate positions as twelve (12) month or ten (10) month. When a position<br />

is so designated, an employee in the same classification who currently<br />

works twelve (12) months may voluntarily agree to demote himself/herself to<br />

the ten (10) month position. Any reassignments <strong>of</strong> employees resulting from<br />

these designations shall be done in seniority order in accordance with this<br />

Agreement.<br />

C. Duties<br />

1. Notification <strong>of</strong> any change <strong>of</strong> work location <strong>of</strong> the center during the summer<br />

shall be sent to the employees affected at as early a date as possible, but not<br />

later than August 31.<br />

2. The instructional staff must participate in the meal time phase <strong>of</strong> the Pre-K<br />

classroom. Each such employee shall receive a thirty (30) minute duty free<br />

period during the day.<br />

3. All emergency assignments and duties within a school or center are to be<br />

shared among all employees on an equitable basis.<br />

4. No Pre-K employee shall be assigned to a public school as a temporary<br />

substitute.<br />

5. Comprehensive Early Learning Center employees shall not have to perform<br />

escort duties for any child above the second grade. Wherever possible,<br />

such employees shall not have to perform such escort duties for any child in<br />

kindergarten, first grade and/or second grade.<br />

6. No employee shall be required to perform personal errands and tasks for<br />

other members <strong>of</strong> the staff.<br />

7. Social Workers shall not be used as substitutes.<br />

8. Except in an emergency, <strong>of</strong>fice assistants shall not be required to take the<br />

place <strong>of</strong> classroom staff in the performance <strong>of</strong> the classroom staffs regular<br />

duties.<br />

9. Clerical employees shall not be used as substitutes.<br />

10. Student nurses assigned to schools or centers for the purposes <strong>of</strong> observation<br />

shall not be used as substitutes.<br />

11. Employees shall not be required to lift and/or transport material <strong>of</strong><br />

unreasonable weight or bulk. No child shall be asked to transport heavy material<br />

or furniture or perform the duties requiring custodial or specially assigned<br />

personnel.<br />
