XXI. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />

exists and police <strong>of</strong>ficers, crossing guards or non teaching assistants are not<br />

available for such duty, and such duty in the past has been traditionally performed<br />

by employees in that school.<br />

5. Tentative duty rosters for employees in a school shall be prepared and<br />

posted in such school. Notification <strong>of</strong> his/her proposed assignment for the following<br />

school year shall be given to each employee at as early a date as possible<br />

after the allotments are complete.<br />

6. Except for such classifications whose duties and responsibilities required<br />

them to work elsewhere, employees during the regular hours <strong>of</strong> work shall not<br />

be required to perform any work in other than premises owned or operated by<br />

the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong>.<br />

D. Support Services, Facilities and Supplies<br />

1. Each employee shall have a locker and a mailbox, and where the nature <strong>of</strong><br />

the work requires, the employee should be provided with a desk with a lock.<br />

2. As soon as possible, all books for all libraries shall either be purchased in<br />

already processed form or shall be centrally catalogued.<br />

Article XXii<br />

Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Pre-K Employees<br />

A. Work Schedule<br />

1. Where administratively possible, each employee will be released from his/<br />

her classroom for fifteen (15) minutes during any continuous three (3) hour<br />

period <strong>of</strong> assigned responsibility.<br />

2. All Pre-K teachers shall be given a common preparation time <strong>of</strong> two (2)<br />

hours per week each Friday. When Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development is <strong>of</strong>fered for half<br />

days on Fridays, the Office <strong>of</strong> Early Childhood will develop an alternate calendar<br />

with input from the <strong>Federation</strong> that affords maximum pr<strong>of</strong>essional development<br />

opportunity for teachers and minimum inconvenience for parents.<br />

Preparation time will be paid back when schools are closed because <strong>of</strong> inclement<br />

weather or by administrative action.<br />

3. Pre-K teachers who are certified shall be eligible for sabbatical leaves to<br />

the same extent and subject to the same regulations as pr<strong>of</strong>essional employees.<br />

4. Pre-K Late Pick-Up Policy<br />

(a) For Centers located in schools Pre-K children who have not been picked<br />

up after the student day are to be left in the custody <strong>of</strong> the school Principal or<br />

the Principal’s designee.<br />

(b) For <strong>of</strong>f-site Centers the following policy will apply:<br />

(1) The process outlined in Article XVII, Section C will be implemented<br />

at the beginning <strong>of</strong> each school year to identify two (2) adults from each center<br />

who will remain after the workday to supervise children who are not picked up<br />

on time. In the event these individuals are required to stay with children after<br />

the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the teacher workday they will be compensated at their appropriate<br />

EC rate. <strong>Teachers</strong> shall be repaid for any lost preparation time.<br />
