3. Vacation (Code 02)<br />

(a) Active employees working on a twelve (12) month schedule in the Non-<br />

Teaching Assistants, Secretaries, Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals, Comprehensive Early<br />

Learning Center, Head Start and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/Technical bargaining units<br />

shall be entitled to the following vacation with pay at the annual rate <strong>of</strong><br />

pay such employee is receiving at the time such vacation is actually<br />

taken:<br />

length <strong>of</strong> Uninterrupted Service to July 1 Vacation time<br />

If appointed between January 1 and April 30 One Week<br />

Six months to four years Two Weeks<br />

Four years to eight years Three Weeks<br />

Eight years to fifteen years Four Weeks<br />

Over fifteen years Four Weeks and Two Days<br />

An employee may take one (1) week <strong>of</strong> unpaid time per year in addition<br />

to his/her vacation. Requests for such time shall be submitted in the same<br />

manner as requests for vacation.<br />

(b) For an employee in the Non-Teaching Assistants bargaining unit who<br />

seeks a part <strong>of</strong> his/her vacation during the school year, his/her request<br />

shall be approved provided the needs <strong>of</strong> the school do not require otherwise.<br />

For employees in the Comprehensive Early Learning Center<br />

bargaining unit, vacations may be taken at times <strong>of</strong> the year other than<br />

July and August provided that a request for such vacation time is presented<br />

at least two (2) weeks prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> the time the vacation<br />

is to be taken.<br />

4. Educational Leave<br />

(a) Active employees in all bargaining units shall be eligible for an unpaid<br />

educational leave <strong>of</strong> absence under the following terms and conditions:<br />

(i) A teacher shall be eligible for an unpaid educational leave <strong>of</strong> absence<br />

for a September to June school year. Requests for such a leave shall<br />

be filed no later than May 31 <strong>of</strong> each school year. Such a leave shall<br />

be granted to improve the pr<strong>of</strong>essional competency <strong>of</strong> the teacher<br />

subject to the approval <strong>of</strong> the content <strong>of</strong> the academic work to be<br />

presented. The teacher shall be returned to the same position in the<br />

same school he/she occupied at the time <strong>of</strong> the leave, provided that<br />

the position still exists.<br />

(ii) An employee other than a teacher shall be eligible for an unpaid<br />

educational leave <strong>of</strong> absence for a period <strong>of</strong> five (5) months commencing<br />

either September 1 or February 1. The leave <strong>of</strong> absence shall<br />

not exceed a total period <strong>of</strong> one (1) school year. Such a leave shall<br />

be granted to improve the competency <strong>of</strong> the employee subject to<br />

the approval <strong>of</strong> the content <strong>of</strong> the academic work to be presented.<br />

The employee shall be returned to the same position in the same<br />

school/location he/she occupied at the time <strong>of</strong> the leave, provided<br />

that the position exists.<br />
