XXVI. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Supportive Services Assistants,<br />

Parent Assistants and Health Room Technicians<br />

B. Assignments and Transfers<br />

1. Subject to Federal Program guidelines, an employee who is in service shall<br />

be eligible for a summer position in his/her present job classification in seniority<br />

order.<br />

C. Duties<br />

1. All emergency assignments within a school are to be shared among all<br />

employees on an equitable basis.<br />

2. No employees shall be required to perform duty on street corners, which<br />

are not on the sidewalk immediately adjacent to school buildings. Duty on<br />

street corners may be required <strong>of</strong> an employee only if the need for such duty<br />

exists and police <strong>of</strong>ficers, crossing guards or non teaching assistants are not<br />

available for such duty, and such duty in the past has been traditionally performed<br />

by employees in that school.<br />

3. No employee shall be required to perform personal errands and tasks for<br />

other members <strong>of</strong> the staff.<br />

4. Employees shall not be required to take the place <strong>of</strong> a secretary in the<br />

performance <strong>of</strong> the secretary’s regular duties.<br />

D. Support Services, Facilities and Supplies<br />

1. With respect to any provision <strong>of</strong> this Agreement which relates to facilities,<br />

access to facilities, or activities within a facility, such provision shall not be applicable<br />

where an employee is assigned to a non-public school or other facility not<br />

administered by the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philadelphia</strong>.<br />

2. Each employee shall be provided with the appropriate supplies and materials<br />

required for the performance <strong>of</strong> his/her assigned tasks and duties.<br />

3. Where an employee is responsible for an activity in a school for which supplies<br />

and materials are ordered or requisitioned directly by the Principal, such<br />

employee shall be included in consultations prior to such ordering or<br />

requisitioning.<br />

4. Where possible, fifteen (15) days’ notice shall be given for classroom<br />

repairs to be made during the school day. Where alterations are planned, teachers<br />

are to be notified and shall share such notice with employees when the contract<br />

is let and the contemplated date for start <strong>of</strong> the work and preliminary<br />

work shall be performed without causing the contract to be performed out <strong>of</strong><br />

the specified sequence to minimize adjustment problems.<br />

5. The adjustment <strong>of</strong> behavioral problems is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> employees<br />

as well as <strong>of</strong> teachers and administrators. Employees shall have immediate<br />

recourse to the teacher or administrator to whom they report and shall be given<br />

effective and consistent support by such teacher or administrator who shall<br />

promptly take appropriate action in each case.<br />
