(v) For a period <strong>of</strong> mourning, the employee shall be entitled to take <strong>of</strong>f<br />

up to five (5) days at one-third ( 1 ⁄3) pay, upon production <strong>of</strong> a letter<br />

from the head <strong>of</strong> the employee’s congregation.<br />

(b) Relationship by marriage is treated the same as relationship by blood.<br />

7. Other Leaves (Codes 01, 44, 51, 51HR, 60)<br />

(a) Religious Holiday. An active employee in the <strong>Teachers</strong>, Non-Teaching<br />

Assistants, Secretaries, Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals, Comprehensive Early Learning<br />

Center, Food Service Managers, Head Start, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/Technical or<br />

Supportive Services Assistants’ bargaining unit may take a personal leave<br />

day or a day <strong>of</strong>f with one-third ( 1 ⁄3) pay to observe a religious holiday, upon<br />

production <strong>of</strong> a letter from the head <strong>of</strong> the employee’s congregation.<br />

(b) Graduations/Marriages <strong>of</strong> Children. An active employee in the <strong>Teachers</strong>,<br />

Non-Teaching Assistants, Secretaries, Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals, Comprehensive<br />

Early Learning Center, Food Service Managers, Head Start, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/<br />

Technical or Supportive Services Assistants’ bargaining unit may take a<br />

personal leave day or (if no personal leave is available) a day <strong>of</strong>f without<br />

pay to attend the graduation or marriage <strong>of</strong> the employee’s child.<br />

(c) Inclement Weather. An active employee in the <strong>Teachers</strong>, Non-Teaching<br />

Assistants, Secretaries, Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals, Comprehensive Early Learning<br />

Center, Food Service Managers, Head Start, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/Technical or<br />

Supportive Services Assistants’ bargaining unit who is unable to get to<br />

work will be paid one-third ( 1 ⁄3) pay due to inclement weather, with the<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the Human Resources Administrator and pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> the employee’s<br />

attempt to get to work.<br />

(d) Unpaid Personal Leave. Active employees in the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional/Technical<br />

bargaining unit may be granted up to five (5) days annually without pay<br />

upon receiving permission from their immediate supervisor and <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

administrator. Approval will not be withheld unreasonably. This leave<br />

must be taken in the fiscal year in which leave is requested. A minimum<br />

<strong>of</strong> three (3) weeks’ notice shall be required prior to the requested leave<br />

date.<br />

(e) Sabbatical Leave. Upon request, a sabbatical leave will be granted to a<br />

teacher and other pr<strong>of</strong>essional employees with a satisfactory rating and<br />

with at least twenty (20) years <strong>of</strong> continuous service for the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

and as further restricted under the rules <strong>of</strong> the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong>. A leave<br />

<strong>of</strong> absence because <strong>of</strong> the employee’s illness or because <strong>of</strong> his/her service<br />

with an educational institution or with the <strong>Federation</strong> shall not delay the<br />

time at which such sabbatical leave may be taken but, for the purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

this Section, the duration <strong>of</strong> such leave <strong>of</strong> absence, except in the case <strong>of</strong><br />

a leave <strong>of</strong> absence for service with the <strong>Federation</strong>, shall not be included<br />

in calculating the length <strong>of</strong> the employee’s service for the <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong>.<br />

(f) Military Leave. For employees called to active military duty, the <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong> will continue to pay them the difference between the individual<br />

employee’s <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> salary and his/her military pay. The <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong> will continue to provide medical benefits for the individual’s<br />
