XX. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Non-Teaching Assistants<br />

NTAs in the school who meet the criteria for such positions shall be eligible for<br />

assignment thereto.<br />

5. Assignment <strong>of</strong> tasks to NTAs within the school shall be the duty <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Lead NTA, subject to the approval <strong>of</strong> the Principal.<br />

Article XXi<br />

Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> Parapr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />

A. Work Schedule<br />

1. Employees may be required to attend the same meetings outside the regular<br />

workday as teachers.<br />

2. When administratively possible, each employee shall be released from his/<br />

her classroom for fifteen (15) minutes during any continuous three (3) hour<br />

period <strong>of</strong> assigned responsibility.<br />

3. Employees assigned to special classes who are required to remain with<br />

their class during lunch shall, where administratively possible, receive an equivalent<br />

amount <strong>of</strong> time <strong>of</strong>f during the day.<br />

4. All meetings <strong>of</strong> library instructional materials assistants shall be held during<br />

the workday.<br />

B. Assignment and transfer<br />

1. Assignments and transfers shall be effected in accordance with Article<br />

XIX, Sections B(3-6) and B(8-14).<br />

2. Properly qualified employees in this unit will be allowed to transfer<br />

between <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> programs without the loss <strong>of</strong> seniority, subject to the<br />

transfer procedures applicable to employees in that classification.<br />

3. Subject to Federal Program guidelines, a parapr<strong>of</strong>essional who is in service<br />

shall be eligible for a summer position in his/her present job classification<br />

in seniority order and for other parapr<strong>of</strong>essional summer positions if he/she<br />

meets the posted requirements <strong>of</strong> such a position.<br />

4. If a laboratory assistant, employed in the position as <strong>of</strong> September 1, 2000,<br />

vacates that position for any reason he/she need not be replaced.<br />

C. Duties<br />

1. All duties and emergency assignments within a school are to be shared<br />

among all employees, except kindergarten assistants, on an equitable basis.<br />

2. No employee shall be required to perform personal errands and tasks for<br />

other members <strong>of</strong> the staff.<br />

3. Employees shall not be required to take the place <strong>of</strong> a secretary in the<br />

performance <strong>of</strong> the secretary’s regular duties.<br />

4. No employee shall be required to perform duty on street corners, which<br />

are not on the sidewalk immediately adjacent to school buildings. Duty on<br />

street corners may be required <strong>of</strong> an employee only if the need for such duty<br />
