XVIII. Working Conditions <strong>of</strong> <strong>Teachers</strong><br />

out <strong>of</strong> the Extended Year Program (Summer Academy) assignment in their home<br />

school by no later than April 1st. In the event that this occurs, vacancies in the<br />

Extended Year Program (Summer Academy) will be <strong>of</strong>fered to other teachers<br />

in accordance with summer program seniority and certification provisions. All<br />

<strong>Teachers</strong> working in the Extended Year Program (Summer Academy) shall be<br />

paid at their regular hourly rate. If leveling is required, teachers not regularly<br />

appointed to the school shall be leveled pursuant to Summer Program leveling<br />

procedures.<br />

D. Duties<br />

1. All other non-teaching duties and emergency assignments within a school<br />

shall be shared among all teachers, except kindergarten teachers, on an equitable<br />

basis.<br />

2. <strong>Teachers</strong> shall be in their classrooms at the contractual time and remain<br />

with their students until all students are safely dismissed.<br />

3. Elementary school teachers shall not be required to perform yard duty<br />

before the start <strong>of</strong> the student day.<br />

4. Elementary school teachers shall not be required to perform recess<br />

duties.<br />

5. Except as provided herein, teachers, therapists, psychologists and nurses<br />

shall not be required during the course <strong>of</strong> the school year to participate in more<br />

than two (2) activities scheduled to begin before or after the teacher workday.<br />

6. The Principal shall consult with the Building Committee concerning the<br />

date <strong>of</strong> any meeting to be scheduled outside the regular teacher workday at<br />

which the attendance <strong>of</strong> teachers is required.<br />

7. The fact that a teacher in a middle-senior high school teaches in the middle<br />

school division <strong>of</strong> that school shall not disqualify him/her from appointment to<br />

a position or task (other than a regular teaching position) in that school.<br />

8. Nurses shall be given forty-eight (48) hours notice <strong>of</strong> a required meeting<br />

except in case <strong>of</strong> an emergency.<br />

9. Nurses shall not be required to transport audiometers or other equipment<br />

weighing more than fifteen (15) pounds to and from their respective schools. A<br />

nurse may be required to transport such audiometers or other such equipment<br />

weighing fifteen (15) pounds or less during the school year, no more than a<br />

number <strong>of</strong> times equal to the number <strong>of</strong> schools to which the nurse is assigned.<br />

Where, on any occasion, a nurse requests assistance in the transportation (<strong>of</strong> an<br />

audiometer) for good cause, such nurse shall make a request to the Principal for<br />

assistance, which request shall not be unreasonably denied.<br />

10. The assignment <strong>of</strong> kindergarten teachers during the registration period<br />

shall not interfere with the schedule established by the school for the interviewing<br />

<strong>of</strong> parents and registering <strong>of</strong> kindergarten children.<br />

11. There shall be five (5) meeting free interview days for all kindergarten<br />

teachers at the beginning <strong>of</strong> each school year.<br />
