XVII. General Working Conditions<br />

5. Where cafeteria facilities are present and lunch is served to students, lunch<br />

shall be provided to the staff.<br />

6. Where practical and where space permits a health room or suite must be<br />

located in an area where confidentiality and privacy for pupils using the Health<br />

Room can be provided. It should provide areas for physical examinations, first<br />

aid, screening tests, case management, a place for sick pupils to rest, a single<br />

occupancy toilet and hot and cold running water.<br />

7. The <strong>District</strong> will evaluate the feasibility <strong>of</strong> providing air conditioning in<br />

health rooms or nurses suites that currently do not have air conditioning and<br />

will provide the results <strong>of</strong> the study to the <strong>Federation</strong> for further discussion.<br />

8. Under unusual circumstances, an employee will be transferred at his/her<br />

request if he/she, the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> and the <strong>Federation</strong> agree, notwithstanding<br />

any seemingly contrary provisions contained in this Agreement.<br />

9. When the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> elects to make apprentice intern opportunities<br />

available, employees who possess college degrees will be permitted to apply for<br />

participation in the program.<br />

10. Employees shall be given the opportunity to make known their comments<br />

and suggestions when new departmental programs are implemented.<br />

11. Scheduled meetings on school time for teachers shall be held only if a<br />

reasonable alternative cannot be found. In case it is necessary to hold a meeting<br />

on school time with teachers, substitute service shall be provided as follows:<br />

12. In all schools, announcements shall be made, except in the case <strong>of</strong> an<br />

emergency, only at the same time throughout the school year. The Principal<br />

shall notify the school staff in writing <strong>of</strong> the designated time for such announcements<br />

no later than September 15th <strong>of</strong> each school year.<br />

13. A female employee shall not be required to remain in any <strong>of</strong>fice when no<br />

other employee is in that <strong>of</strong>fice or is not so located as to hear or see what is<br />

going on in the employee’s <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

14. A duplicating machine(s) or copy machine(s) in good working order and<br />

well supplied shall be made available to all employees to use for school purposes<br />

at any time that the school is open.<br />

15. The Administration will bear the cost <strong>of</strong> taxicab fare when necessary to<br />

transport an ill child to the child’s home and to return the employee escorting<br />

the child to that employee’s place <strong>of</strong> assignment.<br />

16. The re-employment <strong>of</strong> employees who enter the military service <strong>of</strong> the<br />

United States shall be governed by the Universal Military Training and Service<br />

Act.<br />

17. If schools are closed by administrative action, an employee shall not be<br />

charged for a day <strong>of</strong> leave, provided that a substitute has not been assigned and<br />

paid for that day.<br />
