4. A former teacher in the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philadelphia</strong> who returns to<br />

service after a period <strong>of</strong> more than four (4) years shall be given the same salary<br />

credit for his/her prior service as a newly hired teacher with approved pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

experience outside <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Philadelphia</strong> public schools.<br />

5. A former secretary, Parapr<strong>of</strong>essional or NTA in the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Philadelphia</strong> who returns to service after a period <strong>of</strong> more than four (4) years<br />

shall be given salary credit for his/her prior service on a year for year basis up<br />

to a maximum <strong>of</strong> three (3) years.<br />

6. An employee who has been promoted shall suffer no loss <strong>of</strong> pay as a result<br />

<strong>of</strong> such promotion.<br />

7. When employees other than teachers are required to attend Staff Development<br />

Programs after their regularly scheduled work day, they shall be compensated<br />

at their regular hourly rate <strong>of</strong> pay.<br />

8. Effective January 1, 2001, an employee moved to a lower paid classification<br />

shall, except in cases <strong>of</strong> demotion, retain his/her former rate in his/her new<br />

classification until such time as the rate for that new classification reaches his/<br />

her red-circled rate after which he/she shall be entitled to such increases as are<br />

applicable to the classification into which he/she has moved.<br />

9. <strong>Teachers</strong> will be paid their regular hourly rate to teach a 6th period and/or<br />

Saturday class(es).<br />

10. When schools are closed by administrative action, ten (10) month employees<br />

shall not be required to report to work.<br />

11. Therapists who are employed at the Widener summer program shall be<br />

paid at their regular bi-weekly rate for such service.<br />

12. <strong>Teachers</strong> teaching in the extended school year program (ESY) will be<br />

paid at their regular daily rate for each day worked in the program.<br />

13. A nurse who has been required by appropriate administrative authority<br />

or in response to a health emergency, to use all or part <strong>of</strong> the lunchtime for<br />

other purposes, shall be entitled to compensatory time <strong>of</strong>f.<br />

14. When a nurse is called in early or retained by the <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> only to<br />

cover for an absent nurse, he/she shall be paid for such time at the extra curricular<br />

rate.<br />

15. There may be continued involvement <strong>of</strong> department heads in the development<br />

<strong>of</strong> curriculum. Payment for curriculum work performed at a time other<br />

than during the teacher’s day shall be at the extra-curricular rate <strong>of</strong> pay. If a<br />

supervisory rate is established, payment is to be at that rate.<br />

16. In the event an employee is absent less than two (2) hours on any day<br />

with approval <strong>of</strong> the Principal/administrator, there shall be no deduction from<br />

the employee’s pay.<br />

17. An employee who fails to submit a properly documented absence card<br />

within the pay period <strong>of</strong> absence shall not be paid until the card is delivered to<br />

the Principal or his/her designee.<br />
