between our two companies is a
close one, and not just geographically.
Thanks to this cooperation, quite a lot
of innovative solutions have been developed
as the result of direct talks.
New products have a long way to travel
before they reach the customer.
The idea for a new product is almost
always born on the road. Many Touratech
employees are motorcycling
enthusiasts who contribute their ideas,
but our in-house racing team and our
customers also “feed” the development
department with suggestions.
The developers implement these ideas
in prototypes, which then first have
to prove themselves during a testing
phase. The manufacturing process
won’t begin until every weak point has
been exposed and fixed or eliminated.
The highest priority in this process is
quality. Every part that is manufactured
in Niedereschach must satisfy the
requirements in every respect. After
all, Touratech products travel along
trails all over the world, and it can be
very rough going. This is a fact that is
well known to Jochen Schanz, Herbert
Schwarz’s partner at Touratech,
in charge of production and development.
So all of the components
that leave through Touratech’s doors
are built to survive extended journeys
through nasty terrain.
The proving grounds include several
different rallies. Special experience
can be gained under extreme conditions,
such as those at The Dakar. Rally
riders are frequently sponsored, and
their feedback is also incorporated into
the continuous improvement process –
because at Touratech, all products are
subject to constant monitoring. This is
how newly-gained knowledge contributes
to making a part even better. In
many cases this is only about little details,
but our developers pay attention
to those too!
All parts are manufactured on CNC
machine tools, and individual steps
in the process are also carried out
by hand when necessary. Production
parts are subjected repeatedly to quality
controls to ensure only components
are fitted which are completely free
from defects and functioning properly.
The success proves that Touratech is
right in continuing to believe in “Made
in Germany”. Meanwhile, the company
now provides more than 200 jobs
at its headquarters in Niedereschach,
with more on the way – there is always
a need for qualified employees. The
