The pit crew, led by Lars Würdemann, operated
like clockwork.
Touratech Racing
And then, at dawn, a sensation:
Touratech Racing 1 was
in first place in the Prestige
class with a comfortable
one-lap lead over the
second-place contenders
– who happened to be
Touratech Racing 2!
Meanwhile Alex Sedlmair,
who by now had
clocked up 18 hours riding
solo, was battling against exhaustion
and his immediate rival, the leader André Engelmann.
Then, shortly after noon on Sunday 16 May, the goal was reached: Touratech Racing 1 and 2 scored a
double victory in the Prestige class. Alex Sedlmair achieved a well-deserved second place among the iron
men. It was also incredible that after having been in continuous use for 24 hours, none of the three BMW
G 450 X bikes had developed any significant faults.
The team could finally take a breather, champagne corks were popped, and there were wild celebrations.
They’d certainly earned it, the Touratech Racing lads. It had taken five years and countless races to get to
the top – along with a huge amount of heartfelt passion and volunteer work.
