Endurance Day 2010
Five years ago, when the racing team appeared at the Endurance
Day, it was the spark that fired the team’s subsequent
successes. Touratech Racing returned to the scene in
2010 and their sensational result showed that the
team, having learned to deal with success
and failure, had come up with a coherent
strategy.
Touratech Racing was well positioned
with two teams in the Prestige
class (four riders, one motorbike) and
one rider in the Iron Man class (one
rider, one motorbike). The BMW G 450
X in team 1 was ridden by Bernd Eckenbach,
Gerhard Forster, Mickael Musquin
and Adrien Lopes. Ian Rowley, Rolf Epting,
Joscha Wiefel and Björn Schuh competed
in the 24-hour race as Touratech Racing 2.
Alexander Sedlmair was prepared for the torture
in the class of the iron men “who feel no pain”.
When the starter’s flag fell at 12 noon on 15 May 2010,
Touratech Racing’s Mickael Musquin was leading the field
after the first half lap.
Despite a few setbacks, Touratech Racing 1 consolidated
their lead, while Touratech Racing 2 fought their way
up from sixth place lap after lap. Touratech Racing 3,
marathon man Alex Sedlmair, was about to slide up
into third place.
As darkness fell the team was shocked when
Mika Musquin announced that he would be
unable to continue due to a worsening
training injury. Team 1 now had to complete
half the race distance with only three
riders.
However, for all three motorbikes
the night passed without
any major incidents.
