In 2005, when the Touratech TB 652 Oryx – a racing
conversion based on the BMW F 650 GS – was wheeled
to the starting line of the Torgau 24-hour race, nobody
could have guessed just how far this project would develop
five years down the line. Mocked by their competitors as
eccentric outsiders, with a racing motorbike that weighed
nearly twice as much as the bikes it was competing against,
even at that time the team caused a minor sensation by
securing fifth place in the Prestige Class with their heavy
Oryx.
Now, just five years later, Touratech Racing can look
back on a wealth of experience in enduro and crosscountry
racing. While they have celebrated a number of
successes, the team has also had to deal with a fair few
setbacks. Some races left everyone feeling in low spirits,
yet despite this the team was always on the starting line at
the next race.
Perseverance pays off: after three years with the Oryx, BMW
HP2 and G 650 Xchallenge, in 2008 Touratech Racing was one
of the first teams to get its hands on the brand-new BMW
G 450 X sports enduro.
They celebrated their first major successes in 2009 and the
team was expanded significantly.
