The Mechanical Retrieval System comprises the following equipment (Note: Additional
equipment information is provided in the Process Descrbtiun fur the Silo 3 Project):

HBN-1 1-5054: Retrieval Bin
0 EAR-1 1-5052: Retrieval Bin Hood
0 EAR-1 1-5053: Excavator Room Hood
0 FDR-11-5 106: Retrieval Bin Discharge Feeder
0 DFC-11-5056: Inclined Conveyor
0 FDR-11-5100: Transfer Conveyor
4.1.1 EXCAVATOR (EXC-11-5050)
The Excavator is an electrically powered, remotely controlled (using CCTV for viewing
operation), hydraulically operated crawler machine with the following features and
capabilities:
0 Rotational, elevation, and telescoping boom capabilities;
Maneuverability in small areas;

Load-handling capability;
Concrete removal and size-reduction capabilities;
0 Remote attachment and operation of all end effectors;
Power cable management system;
0 Lights and CCTV cameras; and
0 Water misting capabilities.
The end effectors include hammerkhisel, bucket, rake, vacuum attachment, and grappler.
The Excavator travels at a maximum speed of about 1.8 ft per second. The boom of the
Excavator has a reach of about 30 ft.
The Excavator, which can operate both inside and outside of the silo, is deployed from the
Excavator Room, which is constructed adjacent to the silo. A window on the Excavator
Room wall and the CCTV System allow the operator to monitor its operation to ensure
that it does not adversely contact the Silo 3 and Excavator Building walls or ceilings.
