of 20° F., the true yearly cost, per square foot, based <strong>on</strong><br />

According to the definiti<strong>on</strong>, the ec<strong>on</strong>omic thickness of<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>insulati<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> occurs when the yearly cost is a minimum, which<br />

thickness is (3.99— 1.06) 2.93 inches <strong>on</strong> the curve in Fig. 54;<br />

and the shape of the curve shows that the refrigerati<strong>on</strong> cost<br />

per square foot increases at a more rapid rate with a given de-<br />

crease below the ec<strong>on</strong>omic thickness than it does for a similar<br />

increase. It will also be noted that such curve is compara-<br />

tively flat <strong>on</strong> each side of the ec<strong>on</strong>omic thickness, indicating
