mixed product*, should be applied exactly as received, without<br />

adding sand or any other material whatever. If, by reas<strong>on</strong> of<br />

evaporati<strong>on</strong>, the product is too heavy to work easily under a<br />

trowel, add as little as possible of clean water, working it well<br />

through the mass.<br />

Apply the first coat of emulsified asphalt plastic approximately<br />

3/32-inch in thickness, keeping the trowel wet, and<br />

working the material well into the surface voids of the <strong>cork</strong>-<br />

board. Then apply the sec<strong>on</strong>d coat to the first, after the first<br />

coat has set up, approximately 1/32-inch in thickness, and<br />

trowel as smooth as the material will permit. After the sec<strong>on</strong>d<br />

coat has taken its initial set, sprinkle with water and<br />

trowel again, to obtain a smooth, hard surface.<br />

Do not score the surface of the emulsified asphalt plastic<br />

finish, unless specified.<br />

143.—C<strong>on</strong>crete Wearing Floors.—See that the exposed sur-<br />

face of the <strong>cork</strong>board has been flooded to a thickness of<br />

approximately ^-inch with hot odorless asphalt, so that the<br />

entire surface of the <str<strong>on</strong>g>insulati<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> is thoroughly protected.<br />

Prepare suitable c<strong>on</strong>crete in reas<strong>on</strong>able quantity, mixed<br />

<strong>on</strong>e part Portland cement to two and <strong>on</strong>e-half parts clean,<br />

sharp sand, and five parts clean gravel or crushed st<strong>on</strong>e.<br />

Cover the <strong>cork</strong>board to a depth of 3 inches with the c<strong>on</strong>crete,<br />

tamp until the water comes to the surface, and let stand until<br />

*If the emulsified asphalt plastic material is not a ready mixed product, then prepare<br />

the material for use <strong>on</strong>ly as directed by the manufacturer.
