Asphalt Cement.—See that the walls present a reas<strong>on</strong>ably<br />

smooth and level surface, remove all dirt, plaster, loose mortar,<br />

whitewash, paint, or other foreign material, or arrange to have<br />

these several items taken care of by those resp<strong>on</strong>sible for such<br />

preliminary work, before making preparati<strong>on</strong>s to erect <strong>cork</strong>-<br />

board to mas<strong>on</strong>ry walls in Asphalt cement.<br />

With suitable Asphalt primer and proper air-gun equip-<br />

ment, apply evenly under a minimum air pressure of 50 pounds,<br />

to the entire mas<strong>on</strong>ry wall surfaces to be insulated, two uni-<br />

form, c<strong>on</strong>tinuous coats of the priming liquid, using approx-<br />

imately 1 gall<strong>on</strong> per 75 square feet for brick or per 100 square<br />

feet for c<strong>on</strong>crete surfaces for the first coat, and 1 gall<strong>on</strong> per<br />

125 square feet for brick or c<strong>on</strong>crete for the sec<strong>on</strong>d coat. If<br />

the Asphalt primer thickens because of exposure to the air,<br />

or during very cold weather, it may be thinned with suitable<br />

solvent to permit an even flow through the air-gun nozzle.<br />

The first coat is to become hand-dry before the sec<strong>on</strong>d is ap-
