1.4.21 <strong>Vol</strong>ley Ball<br />

<strong>Vol</strong>ley ball is a game in which two teams of six active players, separated by a high net, each try to score<br />

points against one another by grounding the ball on the other team’s court.<br />

The court is rectangular, 18,0 metres long <strong>and</strong> 9.0 metres wide <strong>and</strong> a free zone at least 3.0 metres wide<br />

all round the court. The clearance height above the court must be at least 7.0 metres.<br />

The playing surface must be fl at, horizontal, uniform <strong>and</strong> slip resistant. (Only wood or synthetic surfaces<br />

are accepted for international competition)<br />

All lines in the court are 50 mm wide. Two side lines <strong>and</strong> two end lines represent the boundaries of the<br />

court. The centre line is the front of each court, the front zone lies between the centre line <strong>and</strong> the attack<br />

line, which is drawn 3.0 metres behind the centre line. (See Drawing below) The attack zone extends<br />

indefi nitely beyond the side lines.<br />

The service zone is the whole width of the court situated immediately behind the end line. It is limited<br />

on both sides by two 150 mm short lines which are drawn 200 mm long, in line with the side lines,<br />

beyond the end lines.<br />

The net<br />

The net is stretched across the centre of the court at a height of 2.24 metres for women <strong>and</strong> 2.43<br />

metres high for men. The net is 9.5 metres long <strong>and</strong> 1.0 metre deep with 50 mm wide white b<strong>and</strong>s<br />

across the top <strong>and</strong> both sides which line up with the sides of the court. The net is manufactured out<br />

of 100 mm2 netting <strong>and</strong> has multicoloured antennae which project 800 mm above the top of the net<br />

above each side marker.<br />

The posts<br />

The posts that support the net must be 2.55 metres high <strong>and</strong> fi xed fi rmly into the ground at a distance<br />

of 500 – 1000 mm beyond the side lines.<br />

The ball<br />

The ball is round, uniform in colour, has a circumference of 650 – 670 mm <strong>and</strong> weighs between 260 <strong>and</strong><br />

280 gram. It is made of a leather casing with an inner tube made from rubber or similar material.<br />
