FILTRATION RATE – SAND<br />

The fi ltration rate in high-rate s<strong>and</strong> fi lters shall not exceed 7.033 litre per minute per square metre of<br />

effective surface area.<br />

FILTRATION RATE – DIATOMACEOUS EARTH<br />

The fi ltration rate in high-rate s<strong>and</strong> fi lters shall not exceed 0.703 litre per minute per square metre of<br />

effective surface area.<br />

FILTRATION RATE – CARTRIDGE TYPE<br />

The fi ltration rate in high-rate s<strong>and</strong> fi lters shall not exceed 0.132 litre per minute per square metre of<br />

effective surface area.<br />

GAUGES<br />

Pressure gauges shall be installed on the inlet side of the pump <strong>and</strong> the inlet <strong>and</strong> outlet manifolds of<br />

the fi lters.<br />

CROSS CONNECTION CONTROL<br />

Cross-connections between potable water piping <strong>and</strong> the circulation system or water reservoir of any<br />

pool are prohibited. Potable water for makeup water may only be introduced into the reservoir as<br />

follows:<br />

• Across an air gap of at least twice the diameter of the pipe , not less than 150 mm above the<br />

overfl ow level. If an over-the-rim spout is used, it shall be so located so that it not presents<br />

a hazard to users of the pool.<br />

• 76 mm above the overfl ow rim of a fl oat controlled make up water feed tank.<br />

• By a submerged inlet which is properly protected against siphonage by a backfl ow<br />

prevention device.<br />

All sewage from sanitary fi ttings, showers <strong>and</strong> drinking fountains shall be disposed of in a sanitary<br />

manner. Filter backwash <strong>and</strong> wasted water from swimming pools shall be discharged into a sanitary<br />

sewer through an approved air gap, an approved sub-surface disposal system or by means as approved<br />

by the Department. There shall be no direct physical connection between the sewer system <strong>and</strong> the<br />

water circulation system.<br />

ROOF DRAIN WATER<br />

Rainwater drainage form any structure must be diverted away the swimming pool <strong>and</strong> deck to a suitable<br />

point of disposal.<br />
