Paint should be applied strictly in accordance with individual manufacturers’ instructions <strong>and</strong> all work<br />

should be carried out to a high st<strong>and</strong>ard. Two-part polyurethane paints offer improved durability. Courts<br />

should be set out in such a manner as to avoid line markings being too close to each other or coinciding.<br />

The sport marking colours <strong>and</strong> line widths may be briefl y summarised as follows:<br />

3. COMPILATION OF DOCUMENTATION TO DETERMINE CONSTRUCTION COST<br />

In order to simplify the compilation of documentation to determine the cost of construction <strong>and</strong> to<br />

assist in the contract administration of construction projects, a set of st<strong>and</strong>ard documentation has been<br />

developed by the South African construction industry.<br />

3.1 STANDARDISED CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION<br />

The following construction industry in South Africa is represented by a number of public, private <strong>and</strong><br />

professional entities that have combined to compile st<strong>and</strong>ard documentation for the procurement of<br />

construction costs <strong>and</strong> the contract administration of construction projects. The principal entities are<br />

as follows:<br />

3.1.1 Construction Industry Development Board<br />

The Construction Industry Development Board was constituted by an Act of Parliament, The Construction<br />

Industry Development Board Act 38 of 2000, <strong>and</strong> m<strong>and</strong>ated to provide the following:<br />

• Establish a national register of contractors <strong>and</strong> of construction projects to systematically<br />

regulate, monitor <strong>and</strong> promote the performance of the industry for sustainable growth,<br />

delivery <strong>and</strong> empowerment.<br />

• Promote improved delivery management capacity <strong>and</strong> the uniform application of<br />

procurement policy throughout all spheres of government.<br />

• Promote improved performance <strong>and</strong> best practice of public <strong>and</strong> private sector clients,<br />

contractors <strong>and</strong> other participants in the construction delivery process.
