The Panama Canal and the stunning natural beauty of
Costa Rica and Panama.
The amazing underwater world of
Bocas del Toro
The province of Bocas del Toro lies in the north-west of
Panama and includes the Bastimentos Island National
Marine Park. This park also encompasses two small coral
islands which are home to a number of scientists and
also serve as a research base. Idyllic beaches, sea turtles,
pristine coral reefs and an underwater world ruled almost
exclusively by marine life are sure to delight those who
love nature in all its glory.
The construction of the century –
the Panama Canal
Building work on Central America’s famous artificial
waterway began way back in 1881, but it would take
more than 30 years for the canal to be finally completed.
The Panama Canal is now used as a passageway
between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and has been
since 1914. This technical marvel formed of locks and
channels also includes two artificial lakes. One of them,
Lake Gatún, is now flourishing once more with a diverse
range of flora and fauna; the lake has been reclaimed by
mother nature.
The Darién Jungle experience
This coastal mountain range and roughly 360 pictureperfect
island idylls is the homeland of the Cuna Indians.
These people have not only managed to preserve their
own culture, they have also achieved political autonomy.
The Cuna live in the heart of the jungle, in harmony with
nature and in accordance with their own traditional laws,
which have been passed down through generations. Their
territory, the Darién Jungle, is one of the least explored
areas of the world.
The most beautiful national parks
in Panama and Costa Rica
Experience an incredible eleven distinct landscapes on
this journey, all of them starkly different. On the way
you will also discover a phenomenally diverse range of
unspoilt natural scenery, from rainforests, imposing volcanic
scenes and mysterious river banks to picturesque
beaches and national marine parks. One of them, the
Coiba National Park, is also a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. The Corcovado National Park, one of Costa Rica’s
oldest rainforests, is located on the Pacific Peninsula of
Osa. This park is home to roughly 400 species of bird
and many other animals have been spotted roaming this
forest.
Granada –
a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Situated picturesquely at the foot of a volcano and on
the shore of a lake, the Nicaraguan town of Granada
never ceases to conjure up stunning views of the natural
and the man-made. Founded by the Spanish in 1524, it
was one of the most influential towns in Central America
for around 200 years. It is still considered an insider tip
among the region’s colonial pearls. The significance of
its historical legacy has earned it a very special seal of
approval: a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
Two lecturers accompany the trip
Almost every aspect of this trip revolves around the
majesty of nature. That is why we have invited two
experts who know everything there is to know about
flora and fauna. With fascinating lectures and shore
excursions, they will be on hand to answer any questions
you may have about this stunning region.
