Venetian flavour along the Adriatic, Croatian melodies and Istrian
gourmet cuisine: Venice – Venice
An enchanted farewell to Venice
No other departure is as romantic, majestic, or as
magical as the farewell from Venice harbour. The
Sea Cloud glides past palaces, sails alongside the
Santa Maria della Salute Basilica, and gives you a lasting
view of the fairy-tale setting of St Mark’s Square with the
Doge’s Palace and the Campanile.
Istria‘s culinary delights
There is much more to Istrian cuisine than just delicious,
freshly caught fish. The region’s truffles are particularly
popular with connoisseurs, especially the rare white
truffle, known as “white gold”. Another Istrian delicacy
are the olives, which have been prized for their fine taste
ever since ancient times. Nowadays the native olive oil
regularly scores high in international tests.
Split – the Adriatic metropolis
Split was originally established as a retirement home
for the Roman Emperor Diocletian. However, his palace,
which took only ten years to build, soon encompassed
two main roads, a number of villas, military
and civilian constructions and several sacred
buildings. This historical complex covers an area of
roughly 30,000 square metres (323,000 square feet)
and now stands at the centre of the beautiful old town.
It undoubtedly deserves its place as a UNESCO World
Heritage Site.
Croatia‘s musical diversity
Ever heard of klapa or batana? Batana music is per-
formed on a typical batana boat whereas klapa is a form
of group singing which has its roots in liturgical church
song.
