Passage through the Panama Canal
The idea to build a canal linking the Atlantic and Pacific
Oceans dates as far back as 1523. But not until the end of
the 19th century did the French dare to build an artificial
waterway at the narrowest point in Central America. Over
the next hundred years, the canal project developed into a
major disaster, which only ended in 1914.
The jungle paradise of Darién
The Darién National Park is among the least-researched
regions on earth. Travel by boat through the seemingly
impenetrable jungle and find indigenous tribes living in
small villages in the rainforest.
The uniquely diverse wildlife and
plants of Costa Rica
Costa Rica is an absolute paradise for nature lovers: Over
a quarter of the country is protected and twelve different
areas of vegetation lie within its borders. No wonder then
that there is no shortage of unique flora and fauna.
A lecturer accompanies the trip
The fascinating flora and fauna in Costa Rica‘s national
parks are bound to throw up questions. Therefore a scientist
with a detailed knowledge of the region’s various
ecosystems will be on hand to answer them. He will give
presentations and accompany the shore excursions.
