A magical landscape in the colours of spring and vibrant life on the
Azores: Ponta Delgada – Madeira
The Azores – a natural paradise
Surrounded by the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean,
nine large islands and countless smaller ones make up
the archipelago of the Azores. This is the Sea Cloud ii
spring destination as the yacht makes its way around five
of these beautiful islands. Be amazed by hot volcanoes,
rugged cliffs, undulating hills, colourful volcanic lakes,
kilometre-long hydrangea bushes and small historical
towns – it is all waiting to be discovered.
Angra do Heroísmo – a UNESCO World
Heritage Site
Two forts overlooking the harbour, elegant renaissance
facades, colourful houses, monasteries, churches and
palaces – Angra do Heroísmo is the oldest city in the
Azores. It was granted its municipal rights in 1474,
awarded city status in 1534, and was even capital of
Portugal for three years after 1580. Its old town, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a piece of history.
The world‘s most colourful marina – Horta
Horta, on the island of Faial, is the archipelago’s most
international spot and the true hub of the Atlantic. The
first ever telephone cables and transatlantic flights were
connected via this small island, and even today it is
still the most popular port of call for boats crossing the
Atlantic. The walls of its dock have become somewhat of
a guestbook for skippers; for centuries this has been the
place where sailors would leave their mark in the form of
a small painting.
