Every day is a gift – with silent nights under the stars and all
the variety of the Lesser Antilles and the Grenadines.
Tobago Cays – a paradise for snorkellers
Far away from everyday life ashore lie five uninhabited
islands surrounded by a turquoise sea, just waiting to
be discovered. Their name? The Tobago Cays. Four of
the islands are surrounded by a protective, horseshoeshaped
coral reef. This is an ideal place for snorkelling
and a refuge for rare marine wildlife.
The magnificent Pitons of St Lucia
The two famous volcanic cones, which look like green
“sugar loaves”, dominate the south of the island of
St Lucia. Our anchorage at Soufrière gives you a front
row seat of the views over these natural wonders. The
Pitons are part of the volcanic landscape and protected
as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They have been
extinct for many years, but the sulphur springs that
surround them still bubble away in various picturesque
shades of yellow.
The dreamy beaches of the British
Virgin Islands
The beaches on the British Virgin Islands of Virgin Gorda
and Jost van Dyke are truly unique. On Virgin Gorda,
the picturesque rounded granite blocks of “The Baths”
form a labyrinth straight from a fairy tale, while on
Jost van Dyke you will find row after row of palm
trees. In particular, White Bay, as its name suggests,
boasts fine sand as white as snow. It is the perfect
location to delight your senses with our beach barbecue.
The jet-set island of St Barts
Its official name is St Barthélemy, but most people
fondly refer to it as St Barts. It was back in 1957 that
the banker David Rockefeller built the first paradise
getaway here, and today the island remains a hideout for
the jet set, including several American film stars. Take
a stroll through the capital Gustavia, browse the shops
for treasures and specialities, or enjoy a sundowner
in the unique harbour surrounded by bars, cafés and
restaurants. Come at New Year and witness the arrival
of several mega-yachts.
Steel and reggae bands in Shirley
Heights, Antigua
Shirley Heights is actually a small hill with an old fortress
offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the
Antigua coastline. But at the weekends, there is much
more to enjoy here than just the picture-perfect view of
the sea: celebrations, dancing and private barbecues
are accompanied by live music from steel and reggae
bands. It is all about diving into Antigua’s “joie de
vivre” and being swept up by the vivacity and rhythm
while the sun sets into the sea.
Two lecturers accompany the trip
The geophysicist and astronomer Prof Erich Übelacker
and his wife, Heidemarie Übelacker-Bröring, will be on
board throughout the journey. Artist, social pedagogue
and art teacher Heidemarie gives painting classes, while
her husband takes care of all “matters celestial”. Prof
Übelacker has gained an outstanding international reputation
at the Hamburg Planetarium, as an adviser to
UNESCO and in the training of US astronauts. He is a
scientific author, a popular commentator and much in
demand as a public speaker.
Depending upon the circumstances, it is possible that other lecturers will be on board
for this trip.
