Adriatic Sea
Famous sites and undiscovered treasures in Croatia and the Adriatic:
Venice – Venice
An enchanted farewell to Venice
No other farewell is as romantic and melancholic as the
route taken by the Sea Cloud ii as it leaves this lagoonbased
city. Our tall ship slowly sails past all of Venice’s
famous buildings and offers a panoramic view of the
magnificent St Mark’s Square, the Campanile, the Bridge
of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace.
Istria’s culinary delights
They may well be famed in France and Italy but what most
people do not know is that you can also find the most
expensive and most exquisite of mushrooms hiding in
Istrian soil: the white truffle. The country’s oak forests are
actually some of Europe’s largest harvesting grounds.
Another delicacy is the region’s native olive oil, which has
already won a number of awards.
Split – the Adriatic metropolis
Gothic, Romanesque, Venetian, Roman and Baroque – a
stroll through Split’s old town is like taking a walk through
the ages. A large part of the old town is taken up by the
palace complex of the Roman emperor Diocletian. This
UNESCO World Heritage Site is so big that you could
spend hours just walking through it, with its imposing
monuments, museums, shops, cafés and bars.
Croatia‘s musical diversity
Croatia is renowned for its wide variety of traditional
music. The most famous is tamburica which can only be
played by a small orchestra made up exclusively of string
instruments. It is often accompanied by dancers in traditional
dress. Klapa music is a type of choral singing with
an almost magical charm. Another Croatian speciality is
batana, where music groups play on board traditional
boats.
