French flair on the Îles des Saintes This small archipelago, which earned its place in history as the Gibraltar of the Caribbean, has been a great source of contention over the years. It finally became French territory in 1816. Nowadays, the only remnant of these troubled times is an old fort. Life here is peaceful, as relaxed as the rest of the Caribbean, and spiced with a touch of savoirvivre. Take a stroll through the small town on the island of Terre-de-Haut and discover all its little shops, before taking a break in one of the splendid restaurants or cafés.
