Richard Wagner – an expert’s view
Music, theatre, opera and ballet expert Peter Davids
loves to take a glimpse behind the scenes and reveal
the secrets behind the magic. In celebration of the 200th
anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner, Davids will
provide an insight into the composer’s life, work and former
places of residence throughout this trip, and perhaps
offer some of our guests a new perspective on the pieces
written by this famous composer.
Depending upon the circumstances, it is possible that another lecturer will be on
board for this trip.
Richard Wagner‘s Bayreuth
It was not just Bayreuth’s Nibelungs that Wagner made
famous, but also the city itself. It was here that he was
able to realise his dreams, to plan the construction of his
own concert hall and to find inspiration in his Wahnfried
villa, a building which is now home to the Richard Wagner
Museum.
The Upper Middle Rhine Valley –
a UNESCO World Heritage Site
The cultural landscape of the upper half of the Middle
Rhine Valley, with its vineyards, rural wine-growing villages,
castles and palaces, is a masterful mix of town,
countryside and waterway that is a protected UNESCO
World Heritage Site. A divine romantic passage awaits you.
Würzburg and its Residence
Perched high above the river Main sits the Marienburg
– on the other side of the river you will find the old town
and the Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. This magnificent baroque castle with its park was
once the official seat and home of the ruling archbishops
of Würzburg.
