In pursuit of music, romance and the Romans along the Moselle
and the Rhine: Strasbourg – Bernkastel-Kues (Trier)
Artists and their passion: music
Many famous artists have studied at the Hamburg
University of Music and some of the school’s up-andcoming
musicians will put their skills to the test on our
trip with a number of concerts on board. A further concert
will be taking place on shore in the sacred Basilica of the
Eberbach Monastery as part of our “Autumn of Music”
programme of events.
Renowned for exquisite wines
Alsace, Baden, the Rhine region and the banks of the
Moselle are famous not only for their magnificent landscapes
but also as wine producers. The numerous hillside
vineyards along the Middle Rhine are especially
picturesque, and this undeniably romantic setting has
been famed as the home of the Loreley since the end of
the 17th century.
German palaces and romantic castles
There are roughly 40 castles and palaces overlooking
the Rhine between Rüdesheim and Koblenz. One of
them is Namedy Castle, which is privately owned by
Princess Heide von Hohenzollern. Impressive fortresses
and opulent palace complexes can also be found
enthroned along the banks of the Moselle. One of the
most romantic is the Cochem Imperial Castle.
Trier – one of Germany’s oldest cities
The university city of Trier was founded over 2,000 years
ago and initially named Augusta Treverorum. Its Roman
roots can still be spotted at every turn; nowhere else in
Germany will you find as many buildings from this era in
such good condition. Pass through the famous city gate of
Porta Nigra to reach the picturesque city centre, where you
will also find Germany’s oldest cathedral.
