A short trip into the culinary heart of Alsace:
Basle – Mainz
Artists and their passion: music
The Hamburg University of Music is one of Germany’s top
institutes for the country’s young and gifted musicians.
One of the students will be joining us on our trip, providing
musical ambience with several on-board concerts in
the lounge – let the “Autumn of Music” begin.
Alsace – a delight for the senses
Elegantly designed timber-framed houses, narrow alleyways
and balconies adorned with flowers – Colmar’s old
town is like a scene from a fairy-tale. Colmar is viewed
as the capital of Alsatian wine and the origin of the
region’s culinary specialities. Strasbourg combines the
European spirit and a rich historical legacy with modern
city living. Its old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site,
is overlooked by one of Europe’s most impressive
cathedrals. Hidden within its quiet, narrow streets you
will find picturesque facades, countless delicatessens
and exquisite restaurants.
Famous the world over: Heidelberg
Heidelberg’s fame owes itself to one ruin in particular: the
Heidelberg Castle. This Renaissance building, still glorious
to this day, is proof that there is beauty in imperfection. It
was considered a romantic idyll as early as the beginning
of the 19th century and became a popular landscape motif
for many famous painters. The city’s celebrated university,
the oldest in modern-day Germany, is equally well known.
Around 50 Nobel prize winners were either professors or
students here.
