Wine-growing regions on the Danube
Wine growing has long been a tradition in the areas
surrounding Vienna, in the Wachau and in Hungary. And
viniculturalists have been offering their precious produce
in wine taverns for almost just as long. The Grüne Veltliner
is an Austrian speciality and refined red wines are experiencing
a renaissance in Hungary, along with the more
traditional Tokajer.
A beautiful farewell to Budapest
The banks of Buda and Pest can be enjoyed along a
28-kilometre (17 miles) stretch of the Danube as we pass
the parliament building, the National Theatre, numerous
Art Nouveau facades and many more of the city’s sights,
almost all of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage
Sites – a truly magnificent farewell!
the Augarten porcelain factory
The former imperial Augarten summer residence is now
home to a porcelain factory steeped in tradition and a fascinating
museum dedicated to the Viennese “white gold”.
Handmade artwork and figurines from a range of stylistic
eras, including vases, lamps and tableware collections,
are produced with the finest attention to detail.
