Music is in the air on this trip – both on land and on
board. We have invited a musician from the Hamburg
University of Music to join us on this voyage and our guest
will transform the RiveR Cloud ii lounge into an exclusive
concert hall. “Autum of Music” is this cruise’s theme.
Historic Miltenberg
The old town lies on a narrow strip of land on the northern
bank of Main River but was frequently flooded so the city
expanded southwards across the river. From the years 83
to 260, the Romans built a remarkable line of frontier forts
that divided the Roman Empire and the unsubdued Germanic
tribes. Worth seeing are the 11th century Mildenburg,
the local castle, the Schnatterloch, a historical marketplace,
or the Hotel “Zum Riesen”, one of Germany's oldest inns,
if not the oldest. The timber-frame houses in Miltenberg
create an inimitable feeling of German life in the 16th and
17th Century as in the same way, the gabled houses in their
pristine condition reinforce the impression of a town virtually
transported from the medieval age into modern times.
Würzburg and its Residence
Perched high above the river Main sits the Marienburg – on
the other side of the river you will find the old town and the
Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This
magnificent baroque castle with its park was once the official
seat and home of the ruling archbishops of Würzburg.
Richard Wagner‘s Bayreuth
It was not just Bayreuth’s Nibelungs that Wagner made famous,
but also the city itself. It was here that he was able to
realise his dreams, to plan the construction of his own concert
hall and to find inspiration in his Wahnfried villa, a building
which is now home to the Richard Wagner Museum.
