experiment to provide a set of targets and distractors for the test phase of the experiment. Emotional arousal, emotional valence and low level visual properties were matched between these two sets (see Appendix 3.1 for means and SD). Stimuli were also matched for whether or not they contained an identifiable face within the photograph. Stimuli were selected to provide distinct ratings of emotional valence between the positive, neutral and negative groups of stimuli with means (with SD in parentheses) of 7.17 (0.53), 5.01 (0.60) and 3.04 (0.55) respectively.
