MIDDLE GEAR SERVICE<br />

5. Measure:<br />

*Starting torque (driven pinion gear)<br />

Under specification Repeat steps from 4.<br />

Starting Torque (Driven Pinion Gear):<br />

0.4 0.5 Nm (0.04 0.05 kg,<br />

0.29 0.36 Ib)<br />

Never exceed the standard starting torque.<br />

*Be sure to tighten the driven pinion gear nut<br />

slowly, carefully checking measurements each<br />

time. Exceeding the standard starting torque<br />

may depress the collapsible collar, requiring<br />

reassembly.<br />

To reassemble, you must replace the collapsible<br />

collar and repeat the steps in 4 and 5 to obtain<br />

the standard starting torque.<br />

6. Position:<br />

Yoke<br />

Intothe U-joint.<br />

7. Lubricate:<br />

Bearings<br />

8. Install:<br />

Bearings<br />

Onto the yoke.<br />

Wheel Bearing Grease<br />

Check each bearing. The needles can easily fall<br />

out of their races. Slide the yoke back and forth<br />

on the bearings; the yoke will not go all the way<br />

onto a bearing if a needle isout of palce.<br />

9. Press each bearing into U-joint using a<br />

suitable socket.<br />

NOTE:<br />

Bearing must be inserted far enough into<br />

joint so that circlip can be installed.<br />

10. Install:<br />

Into groove of each bearing.<br />
