Where:
a = a num eral (usualy a decimal num ber) on
the gear is either added to or subtracted
from “84”.
b = a num eral on the gear case (i.e. 83.50)
Exam ple:
) If final drive shaft gear is m arked “+01”
. . “a” is 84.01.
!) If the gear case is m arked “83.50” , . ,
“b” is 83.50.
A = 84.01 - 83.50
= 0.51
I) Therefore, shim thickness is 0.51 m m .
Shim sites are supplied in fo lowing thicknesses:
Because shim s can only be selected in O.O5
mm increm ents, round off hundredths digit
and select appropriate shim(s).

In the exam ple above, the calculated shim
thickness is 0.51 m m . The chart instruct
you, how ever, to round off the 1 to 0
Thus you should use a 0.50 m m shim.
